HYDROCODONE DETOX

What is Hydrocodone? It is a semi-synthetic opioid derived from two naturally occurring opiates – codeine and thebaine. These both are produced by opium poppy. Hydrocodone is popularly used as pain killer. However over the years many people have abused this drug for getting that euphoric feeling and mainly teenagers fall prey to such drug abuse. Most of them are surprised that they have got themselves so seriously addicted and in need of a hydrocodone detox. Where earlier hydrocodone was seen as an effective analgesic or pain reliever, today it is more popular as an abused drug and the crisis is now raised mountain-high.

The bad part of the story is that people take addiction to cocaine, marijuana and heroin more seriously than to hydrocodone. These attach themselves to the brain receptors. They also damage the spinal cord and gastrointestinal tract of the abuser. Continuous use of hydrocodone could lead to allergic reactions, constipation, decreased mental and physical performance, lower sex drive, dizziness, seizures, breathing problems and many more. Hydrocodone is used by people to cut off the tensions and get a euphoric state of mind. This is done very well by hydrocodone as the drug affects that part of the brain that controls sensory perceptions.

It is very important that persons getting hydrocodone detox should be administered by a medical practitioner. Extra care needs to be taken when the treatment is discontinued to deal with the withdrawal symptoms like drug diarrhea, irritability, runny nose, dilated pupils, extreme sweating, fever, chills, insomnia and depression. Though these symptoms are not life threatening, it is more favorable that the patient seeks medical advice rather than suddenly stop usage of hydrocodone. The symptoms grow stronger within 48 to 72 hours. Treating for hydrocodone addiction is done with detoxification of the body, followed by methadone or LAAM treatment.
